Elbow Circles for Power and Aim

On to Spring! Shoulders for Throwing, Swinging and ... Casting!

The ATeam is back. The skis and jackets and snowshoes and poles have all been stashed away and its time for spring sports. Disc golf, hiking, gardening, bocce and golf golf, anyone? That means getting backs and shoulders loosened up and ready to throw.

This week, it was deeper into the shoulders' connection to and support of the arms. It's helpful to feel the relationships: elbow forward, shoulder blade back and down, elbow back, shoulder blade forward and up. When the shoulder and torso do the heavy work, the hands can do the aiming.

After feeling around and loosening up the shoulders, with one hand on the shoulder and the other cupping that elbow, we drew elbow circles in three planes: a circle aligned with the floor, a circle aligned with the wall ahead, and one along the body centerline.

Jakob was thinking kayaking with circles along the centerline. For Mary, it was golf and the circle facing the wall ahead. North Country girl Natasha thought of a completely new application: fishing! Brilliant!

You can check out the library of lessons at: Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country YouTube Channel.

Big up to Jakob for the hours and hours and hours spent captioning each lesson and for bringing a professional look to our program.
