For Climbers - From Toenail to Fingernail - Maximum Reach

Natasha and Tim had just come off the climbing wall and were thinking full extension. There’s a lesson for that. Here’s one.

Did you realize that your full extension, from toe nail to fingertip, begins in the pelvis? How you move through your hips establishes your balance, your push off and your reach.

This lesson starts with hips, and different ways to shift weight. Having different ways to shift weight can be helpful depending on what rock and hard place you are between.

From there comes extension, starting with the hip to help you focus on the next hand hold, reaching for it, and finally pushing off into the next toehold.

This is a fundamental lesson. Our focus was climbing, but the skill applies to any movement that involves reaching: throwing, hitting, picking that tomato, kayaking, swimming. Pretty much everything.
