The Light Returns (to our eyes) - 2 - Close Focus (Threads and Pearls)

Light Returns (to our eyes) - 2 - Close Focus (Threads and Pearls)

Reality check on close range eye movements

Based on AY 26 - Threads and Pearls

At close range, without glasses, where do your eyes go? This extreme low impact, high intensity lesson can be profoundly surprising. It requires a high level of imagination, including imaging what you might do if you can’t imagine.

Sitting comfortably, maybe with elbows on a surface in front of you so you can hold your hands at eye level, imagine a beam of light zinging from your fingers to your retina. Each eye may be different - that’s interesting enough. Now, turn the light ray into a thread on which you string a luminous pearl. The game here is to imagine watching the pearl glide up and down the thread, marking the distance between the pearl and eye. And then checking what you think is the pearl’s location against an open eye evaluation. The results can be confirming, surprising, or both. Which eye has a better focus on “reality?“ Do your glasses help you adjust as expected?

Eye lessons can be relaxing and exhausting, surface and profound. Enjoy.

Set up for very low-movement sitting lesson:

optic nerve to optical cortex drawing

  • Dress for warmth - this is an extreme low impact lesson

How you might feel after this lesson: Tranced-in; Face, neck, and shoulders deeply relaxed; Close depth of field challenged Peripheral vision possibly expanded; Deeper connection between breath and eyes; Possible exercises to help short range focus.
