The Light Returns (to our eyes) - 1 - Gazing Far
Light Returns (to our eyes) - 1 - Gazing Far
Preparing for longer, brighter days - an eye muscle exploration
Based on AY 15, Eyes 1, by Moshe Feldenkrais
The light is palpably returning. Longer days, lingering sunsets. One student’s request for an eye lesson is my command. We return to a favorite eye lesson, the one where we sweep rainbows in the sky and track gentle clouds as they settle down through our bodies.
Humans’ bodies are turned to respond to the eyes. This early Moshe Feldenkrais lesson is one of his first examinations of using imagination to activate awareness. The instructions have us follow a rolling ball, or snow ball, while sensing deeply into the muscles around the eyes, the breath, etc. Those who have been ATM-ing for a while, there is always the pelvic floor.
Eye lessons can be relaxing and exhausting, surface and profound. Enjoy.
