Tongue posture and pelvic floor - power duo for posture

Based on ATM Book Lesson 10 – Movement of the Eyes Organizes the Movement of the Body by Moshe Feldenkrais, informed by “Pelvic Floor Awareness For Balance and Strength” as created by Deborah Bowes, GCFT® and “Liberate Your Mouth and Jaw” as created by David Zemach-Berson,GCFT®

Back to school, fall holidays, etc. Time to wake up your pelvic floor awareness. This, combined with a recap on tongue posture, is the lesson this week. I have been practicing this combo after seeing summer photos of myself with a tight jaw and loose belly. With some attention that i hope will become habitual, thinking about how the tongue effectively pulls up the back of the head and the pelvic floor draws in the lower belly truly does make my silhouette more elegant.

The gestures of the ‘dead bird’ lesson should be quite familiar now. Which is good for going deep. The ‘dead bird’ gestures provide context to linking the pelvic floor system to the head balancing aspects of tongue posture. Side to side differences are likely to grab your attention.

I recommend a seated chair position so that gravity can help spotlight  the connections of pelvic floor and tongue to posture.  But if “that isn’t Feldenkrais” for you today, supine on a mat is fine.
