Reset Your Body Beat - 11 - Wavy Baby, Seaweed Style
Full body breathing as an easy undulation
Based on “Restorative Rhythms: Feldenkrais Lessons for Health and Pain Relief - 8 - Restorative Undulations” as taught by David Zemach-Berson, GCFT®
In the depths of another polar vortex, imagine yourself in warm island waters, gently flowing with the waves in easy undulations. You are the kelp just rolling in the tide.
In slow progression, the breath becomes the tide; follow the tide down to your toes and back to your crown in an easy undulation.
Lie on your back as if you were floating, arms overhead to help lift the chest. Leading with the breath, follow the sequence we have been developing, inhaling from hand through the public bone rolling between the knees, and down into the foot. Then on the exhale, down into the ground, directing the flow from heel to pelvic floor contracting, up to the shoulder and crown. Explore the flow of breath and body on left, then right, then through the center.
For me, this series has. been a series of spotlights. I have noticed how I habitually grip my right ribs. This lesson pointed out a catch in my low back that never made itself so clearly known. I am working with the pelvic floor system to balance my hips. It’s a process.
Please remind yourself that I share my learning edge. You don’t have to go there. Stop at any point that interests you. Maybe take in my impressions as what might one day be, but don’t stress over it. Learning is most effective when there is the right combination of challenge, achievement, curiosity and PLEASURE.
It has to feel good. At least in this practice. So give yourself a bit of sensual pleasure. Float in the imaginary sun. This undulation can be very satisfying.

How you might feel after this lesson: Breathing coordinated with walking; Hips open and comfortably aligned; Legs aligned in hip sockets, with ground forces flowing easily from foot to hip to head; Shoulders surprisingly released; Upper back and chest looser and more flexible; Deep into baby mind; Delighted by the joy of waves; Curious about what’s next!
